Paula Wilkins strives to put together a challenging schedule for her University of Wisconsin women's soccer team.
She appears to have done a good job of that this season – perhaps too good.
Fifth-ranked Portland scored twice in a four-minute span early in the second half and kept the Badgers winless with a 2-0 decision Friday night at the Husky Invitational in Seattle.
UW (0-3) remains scoreless on the year against three teams with a combined 11-1-1 record.
Junior forward Laurie Nosbusch (Mequon Homestead), the Badgers' top scorer last fall, made her 2010 debut after missing last weekend's 1-0 losses to UCLA and Cincinnati due to injury. She started, played 53 minutes and had one of UW's five shots on the night.
After a scoreless first half, the Pilots (5-0) wasted little time seizing control of the game.
Danielle Foxhoven served in a corner kick in the 47th minute that Michelle Olivier headed to Micaela Capelle in front of the goal, and Capelle beat Badgers junior goalkeeper Lauren Gunderson (Middleton) for her third goal of the season.
Taylor Brooke doubled the lead, heading a cross from Elli Reed past Gunderson for her second of the season in the 52nd to quickly make it 2-0.
They were the first goals allowed by Gunderson in her UW career; she went 264 minutes, 9 seconds before giving up a goal. Her start ended a run of 18 consecutive starts for senior keeper Michele Dalton.
Portland outshot the Badgers 15-5 and freshman Erin Dees made two saves in her fourth shutout. UW has 23 shots, seven of them on goal, without a goal heading into Sunday's match against tournament host Washington.
